Cranial-Sacral Therapy
We all have a cranial wave or rhythm separate from our heartbeat or our breath. All the joints and bones in the body are moved by this discreet muscular pulsation; a rhythmic movement delivered to the cranial bones running down from the base of the cranium through the spinal cord to the sacrum and back up. The cranial wave is a subtle voice of the "spirit". The Hindus refer to the "spirit" as prana and the Chinese call it chi; an ordinary invisible energy field. This activity gives life to the vital functions of the body. Cranial techniques can have widespread and profound effects on peripheral circulation and general well-being. Directing energy and applying sensitive mechanical pressures around cranial and sacral bones can improve hydraulic flow patterns in the cerebrospinal fluid optimizing brain temperature by reducing muscular tension and increasing heat dissipation. Anyone who has received a blow to the head, someone with TMJ problems, or pelvic misalignment can benefit from Cranial-Sacral work. Many massage therapists have studied this energy modality enhancing the over-all balance and integrity of their work. Cranial-Sacral Therapists have sensitive listening abilities perceiving imbalances in the cranial-sacral system. Subtle techniques help restore the rhythmic balance and over-all well-being.
