Carolyn Dechaine, LMSW, specializes in providing individual. couple, and group psychotherapy to people with Multiple Chemical Sensitivities, Electromagnetic Hypersensitivity, and other illnesses linked to autonomic nervous system dys-regulation. Carolyn's therapeutic work emphasizes calming the sympathetic nervous system while providing deep empathy. This type of work is also beneficial to clients with a wide range of trauma histories. Carolyn views psychotherapy as a neuro-plastic therapy that is facilitated by the stability of the therapeutic relationship over time. Her conceptualization of the therapeutic relationship as an agent of change is based in attachment theory. Resolving traumas, both emotional and physical, by rewiring the dominant synaptic pathways occurs most easily within a relational context in which the client's primary needs to be seen and mirrored are being met reliably. Carolyn's experiences as a person who has had severe Multiple Chemical Sensitivities and Electromagnetic Hypersensitivity contribute to her understanding of how to work with people with these conditions. Her own healing path has shown her the effectiveness of pairing energetic and psychological work to bring about change at the deepest level. Carolyn leads a counseling group for people with MCS that meets once a month. Group sessions are structured around therapeutic topics such as: feelings safe inside yourself; and making good decision in stressful situations. Carolyn is a licensed Masters level clinical social worker. She is a therapist in the group practice, Santa Fe Supportive Therapy LLC. Carolyn is a Medicare provider, and accepts some private insurance plans. Carolyn holds a BA degree from Bard College and an MSW from New Mexico Highlands University. |
